Bad news for the Paper SAT takers.

There are about 4 paper SATs left in the US (Aug/Oct/Nov/Dec) - and they're going to be pretty tough to hit 700+ on.

A few years back, students could've gotten a decent score (mid 600's low 7s) by having a mediocre understanding of the concepts. Questions pretty much all sounded the same and they were easy to identify as long as you've done a good number of practice exams.

Now, these 2023 SAT questions are designed/worded/layered in a way that if you don't have the concepts in place 100%, you're not going to know where to start.

Easy questions are still easy, but the medium-hard / hard questions are where most will trip up on.

If you're aiming for anything higher than 650, you want to have a REALLY good understanding of the concept (know it inside out - when/why/how to use it).

We'll have to see if these questions will translate into DSAT.

TL:DR - The last Paper SATs will be tougher than usual - get a SUPER deep understanding of the concept if you want anything above 650+.

*Video on it coming up in about 2~3 weeks.
**Accelerators - Drill down on the Summaries and master it inside out. You'll be set.

I had an interesting opportunity of analyzing every SAT question from 2021 to 2023. After looking over 1400 questions, here are some of the concepts that I think is new for the upcoming SATs in 2023 and beyond
1. Function - Translations
2. Rate - Dimensional Analysis
3. Stats B - Margin of error / sampling
4. Advanced Algebra Tech - complicated factoring
5. Triangles - congruency
6. Volume - Parallelograms

Some of these topics were introduced back in 2018, but they were one-off types and never to be seen again. Looking at the frequencies in the recent exams, I highly recommend learning them. You will see them.

Also, from what I see, the SAT is for sure getting harder by:
1. Introducing new concepts
2. Testing multiple concept in a single question

Will update the Accelerator on these topics and create a Youtube video going over them.

Working out = High SAT score

It's ridiculous how everything in my life ties back to SAT, but here we go

In the summer between 9th and 10th grade, I was self-studying the SAT by locking myself in the library from 9AM to 6PM.

After about 3 weeks of doing this from Monday ~ Saturday, I was getting burnt out, tired, and started to catch all sorts of colds/sore throats/etc.

My parents told me "John, looks like your health can't keep up with the workload. You should exercise and get your health dialed in"

So I started going to the gym, and never stopped since. It not only solved the health problem, but made me a completely different person.

Of all the benefits, the two main growths were:
1. Long term > Short term mindset
When you're working out, your body hurts. Lifting weights through pain, running even though you taste blood in your mouth. It makes no sense to continue at the moment and in the short-term. However, you gain all the benefits in the long-term: healthier, mental toughness, etc. This is when I realized the importance of making short-term sacrifice for the long-term benefits.

2. Ability to push myself and do the hard work that needs to be done
I was going to squat 10 reps. Did 9, and my legs were shaking.
I felt if I went down, I prob couldn't come back up.
Still pushed and got the last rep in.

Studying for the SAT was tough. Lots of moments where I got stuck and just wanted to give up.
Weightlifting got me in the habit of doing the work that needs to be done, regardless of how I felt at the moment.

Looking back now, I would say it was mental toughness from the gym that allowed me to get the perfect score.
Without it, I would have just given up.

If you are not doing so already, you should include some sort of sport/exercise/weight training to your life.

It will help you grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and as a person overall.
You will dominate your competition in most areas of your life

For now, it will get you to your target score on the SAT.
Just do it.

Make the short term sacrifice to reach your long term goals
Success comes down to having an edge over your competition
Make the sacrifice, do the hard work, make tough decisions your competition is afraid of making

College admissions is just a big game of competition for a seat at your target school
