Being willing to listen to that little voice that said things didn't feel right - and act on it - nearly saved my life three years ago in the South Pacific. Fortunately nobody was seriously injured (or worse), but the experience made a lasting impression on me. Maybe it will on you, too.

I know today's video looks pretty boring on its face, but it really is a lot more interesting than you might expect. From drunken grenadiers to high speed ballistic testing on powder flasks, Joel Bohy makes a really good and engaging presentation. So if you have some time, give it a shot!

This is too late for Americans who would need to ship their guns over, but if you are in Europe and you want to attend Lynx Brutality (May 30-31), there are four tickets remaining. ‪@PolenarTactical‬ put them up on eBay, with all proceeds beyond the base price going to support a Slovenian Paralympic air rifle shooter, Maj Crkvenjaš. So here's a chance to get into the match at the last minute, and also help out a good cause!

Ticket #1: www.ebay.com/itm/376232516311
Ticket #2: www.ebay.com/itm/376232522519
Ticket #3: www.ebay.com/itm/376232523323
Ticket #4: www.ebay.com/itm/376232530892

Jason Clower's channel ‪@Type56_Ordnance_Dept‬ is a fantastic resource for understanding modern Chinese small arms development, military thought process, and history. I highly recommend it! His video today is a collaborative co-release; Covered the mechanics of the Type 79 and he covered its development.

Ivan at ‪@KitBadger‬ posted a really good video on his experience this year at the Moons Out night rifle match...which he took 3rd place in!

My friend Greg at From Field to Table has a couple open slots in a class this June, covering a bunch of aspects of backwoods hunting. Things like land navigation, long range shooting, pack and other gear setup, backcountry medical, and game processing. I can't make it myself, but I figure it would probably appeal to some of you guys. It's June 5-8 outside Preston, Idaho.

A bit of Behind The Scenes from Moons Out 2025...I was originally planning to shoot it with a Flux Raider / Holosun thermal dot and a CETME-LV / PVS-4 (I can do twice because I shoot in the staff prematch and also the main match). The idea was to have one modern run and one "classic" (aka painfully obsolete) run.

Well, the moment I received and looked through the Holosun dot I knew it would not work. It's a pretty iffy thermal - not surprising given the size - and we don't have heated targets figured out for the match yet. With heat signatures it would probably have been tough but doable, but without them it would have been completely hopeless. When I mentioned this to Chris at Virginia Citizens Armory (who owns and drives the Humvee we use in the match) he offered to loan me a Mk46 SAW instead. Awesome! But when he took it out to zero two days before the match, it broke a firing pin. A replacement was ordered overnight, but got lost in the mail instead. So, I went to plan C, which was my Lage 5.56 - still a very cool gun to use, and fortunately it worked really well for me.

As for the CETME-LV, I got it zeroed without any problem at home. It has a pretty good tube for a PVS-4 copy, and it seemed like it would be a good balance of success and dismal failure on the stages. But then something happened to it on the drive from the AirBnB to the range, and when I fired it up on the first stage it was completely out of focus. Seems like a lens inside came loose, and there was no way for me to fix that on site. One of the other competitors in the prematch offered to let me borrow his rifle, an AR with a PEQ-15A. It used the same mags and ammo I already had for the CETME, so I happily accepted.

So, in the end both of my plans fell through, one of them literally at the last moment. And yet I still had a really good time by rolling with the circumstances, and actually did really surprisingly well.

I am shooting Moons Out 2025 twice (once in Passive and once in Active), and so naturally I can take two different camo patterns to use. Which of these do you think would be best? These are the ones I have that include suitable cold weather outer layers. You only get one vote; top two will be used (unless I decide to ignore the poll results; no guarantees here).
