The ancients accomplished incredible feats with stone in distant antiquity. Not only moving, erecting, and cutting these stones, but also carving iconic giant sculptures out of them such as the Great Sphinx, the Colossi of Memnon, and Abu Simbel among many, many others. How did the sculptors of old create such massive works of art with such detailed features? There have been theories of the ancient builders using the power of sound to move stones. Could sound also have been used to carve into hard rock? The carvers of Mount Rushmore used dynamite and pneumatic jackhammers to create the iconic structure. The ancient structures are comparable in scale and quality as modern giant sculptures. But what did the ancient stone carvers use to achieve it? Could ancient sonic tools like giant tuning forks have been used to create detailed sculptors out of stone and bricks in the same manner as modern pneumatic hammers?
