What do you know about pilonidal disease?

This weekend I’m going to come out with a review of pilonidal disease! This can be a really tough problem to treat in young people.

I’ll break it down into two videos.

One is what pilonidal disease is and how to diagnose it.

The second video is the treatment plan, including skin flaps…my current favorite - the bascom flap!

Oh, and this is a friend I met on rounds this week!

This week we’re going back to surgical skills and I’m excited to show you how you can use a variety of different fruit as platforms to practice different suturing techniques.

I’ll show you interrupted, continuous, vertical mattress and even a huge horizontal mattress suture you could use for liver hemostasis on a cantaloupe!

Definitely be on the lookout for that video coming out on Tuesday !

Tomorrow to deepen our discussion on Breast Cancer I’m going to put out a new video on BRCA!

It’s important for all to understand and mutations in #BRCA lead to an increase in a variety of cancers, especially #BREAST and #OVARIAN!

As well as many others! Prostate, pancreatic, gastric…what else?

Stay tuned!

New technology alert!

This week I used the KLS Martin Pure Pectus system to repair Pectus excavatum and am the first surgeon in Nevada to offer this to our patients for chest wall reconstruction.

This is an amazing new system and blows away the competition…no contest.

Why?

First the bars are titanium so we minimize the risk of bar allergy that we see with stainless steel bars.

Second is that the bars connect to each other so we minimize, almost eliminate the risk of bar flipping!

I’m very excited to offer this new technology to our patients in Nevada as well keep pushing the line to improve care for kids in our community.

This is not sponsored by KLS Martin but I’ll tell you, it’s a ringing endorsement!

Did you sign up for the Top Knife Giveaway?????

That's right, in the last video on May 21st, 2024 I announced a giveaway of a copy of one of my most favorite books in surgery...Top Knife!

This is a staple in every Trauma Surgeon or General Surgeon's bookshelf. If you're a medical student or junior resident this book is an inspiration of where you're going to be at the end of your training.

It's not only full of wisdom and amusing anecdotes it serves as a how to guide for some of the most difficult operative situations a surgeon will find themself in with a critical ill trauma patient.

If you want to sign up for the giveaway definitely check out this link and definitely watch the video which is also a review of this Top Knife!

Sign up for the Giveaway right here up until June 4th, 2024! Check out the official rules in the video description. You've got to have a mailing address in the United States to receive the book!
