(3 of 2) Surprise! Happy Wednesday! Here’s a bonus video for you all. In the vein of the great DVD extras that we grew up on, here is a side-by-side comparison of the animatic for “The Second” and the final film, plus running commentary by Taylor & Tony.
This concludes the miniseries for “The Second.” Thank you all for joining us on this project. We’ll see you for the next one!

(2 of 2) Alright folks, the finale is here. We’re proud to premiere our short film “The Second,” starring Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Kim’s Convenience, The Mandalorian, and Avatar: the Last Airbender) & Ethan Hwang (Riceboy Sleeps, Umbrella Academy).
“The Second” is the first live-action narrative short written & directed by us. It premiered at Fantasia in 2024, did a short run at XOXO, VIFF, HIFF, and Chilliwack, and is now here for you all. Thank you all so much for your support over the years (and during this little miniseries). We hope you enjoy. See you next time!

(1 of 2) Happy Monday everyone. Here is the third video essay in our miniseries, called “Where Do You Put the Camera?” Please enjoy!

Eight years ago, we hung up our YouTube video essay hats. Nothing sinister; we just felt we’d said what we wanted to say. Now, over 10 years after we first posted a small video essay about Bong Joon-ho’s “Mother,” we’re back for a little while. Here’s the first video of a new limited series. We’ll let it speak for itself.
If you’ve ever watched before, thank you so much for clicking on these little things we made. If this is your first time, welcome to some short (but hopefully good) videos about film form. Please enjoy.

Taylor & Tony are gone again! Thanks for watching!
We returned in late 2024 for a limited series featuring brand new video essays, followed by a short film – "The Second," starring Paul Sun-Hyung Lee & Ethan Hwang.
The original "Every Frame a Painting" was a series of video essays about film form, made from April 2014 to September 2016. We officially announced the end of the channel in December 2017. Nothing sinister, we just felt it was time. This post explains it all:
