This morning I went into a local school to show their reception year some of the wildlife that they might see on a riverside walk (which they are going on tomorrow).
This was the youngest group I have ever led a session for, and being in the first lesson slot after half-term break, it was full of excitement and chaos!
In each of these sessions that I host, I am learning as much as the young people. Wildlife education is minimal in most schools so I want to ensure that they get the best from the short time I have with them.
The photo below is from the last time I visited the school and hopefully I'll be able to share some of the photos the teachers took today with you all shortly.
I am able to do these sessions thanks to all of you who support this channel, your viewership is having a real-life knock on affect and I am thankful to you for that.
I'd also be silly not to mention, if you would like to support my face to face wildlife education activities even more, I do have a patreon. Here's the link if you are interested: www patreon.com/ashotofwildlife

When I started this channel I did not know where it would go, if anyone would watch and to be honest, I worried about failing and looking stupid.
I still worry about failing every single day, and with a young baby, the stakes are higher than they've ever been before. But, with all of your support, your kind comments and just watching my videos, I know that I'm already successful.
100,000 is a whole lot of people, an unimaginable amount- Thanks to every single one of you!
I have some big plans later this year, more wildlife, more wild places and a few positive conservation stories as well. I'll see you there.

I've been posting daily over on Facebook and Instagram, but I know some people don't use either of those platforms.
I don't want you to miss out on all the fun so here is a little animal ID test, can you identify which bird this tail belongs to? (It's a bird that is found in the UK)

Life is VERY busy for my wife and I at the moment, but whenever we can, Sundays are saved for family. Today we took a trip to our local reserve, RSPB Strumpshaw Fen hoping to see a Swallowtail butterfly. No such luck, but smiles all round and plenty of other young families were enjoying the sunshine too!

Over the past few years of making these Wildlife videos, lots of people have suggested places that I should visit- their favourite places to see nature.
This year I'm finally going to start doing so, but I need your help!
If you are based in the UK, and have a favourite place to see wildlife, I'd love to hear about it. It doesnt need to be a nature reserve, but it does need to be publicly accessible. Let me know why you love it so much, some of the creatures you have seen there and if there is a best time of year to visit.
I cant wait to hear from you, and I cant wait to visit some of your wild places!

Today is a big day! I am hosting my first face to face Wildlife Education Event of the year.
I am a mix of nervous and excited, it's not my first rodeo but I still hope it all goes okay.
Thanks for all of your support, you have helped me to believe in myself and now more people are going to learn about our wildlife as a result. Cheers! www.patreon.com/posts/my-first-event-127888135?utm…

Yesterday evening I went in search of a pair of Ospreys who have this week returned to a broad around 20 minutes from my house. I did film a short video (which will be out soon) but whilst I am finding time to edit that, take a look at 1 of at least 8 Great Crested Grebes that were in sight.
Great Crested Grebes in their breeding plumage have a brilliant mane of feathers but this was almost to their downfall. During the 1800s they were hunted as people wanted to use these feathers on hats and on clothes and by 1860 there were as few as 30 pairs left in the country. Luckily they have bounced back since then, there are now almost 5000 pairs here.

Hi everyone. I made this channel and the videos on it to share my love for, and facts about, the wildlife of the UK. So when it is brought to my attention that I have made a mistake, I am happy to be corrected and want to make sure that you all know the truth as well.
In my most recent quiz video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSgdz...) I asked a question regarding when Lynx went extinct in the UK and gave the correct answer as 700 years ago. Although I do extensive research for all of my videos, I have some how made a mistake here and used the wrong figure, both in the script that I wrote and subsequently in the video. The most recent hard evidence of wild Lynx in the UK is from a carbon dated femur that was found to be from the 6th century, just over 1400 years ago. I dont know how I made this mistake, it isnt a typo and I must have misunderstood something that I read. Anyway, count this as an apology, I hope you wont hold a grudge.
Thanks for all of the support on this channel, it has been doing really good lately and I appreciate every single one of you who take the time to watch, leave a comment and do everything you can to help me to fulfil my dream of teaching about wildlife full-time. All the best, Liam

Hi everyone. I hope your 2025 is off to a great start. I turned 33 yesterday so to celebrate we have gone away for the week to center parcs, I am going to try to film a video here as there is a lot of wildlife (which Reeva is loving) but it does mean the next wildlife quiz of the week will be a bit late. I have lots of wildlife walks filmed and can't wait to share them with you all also.

Merry Christmas everyone. Me and Reeva have lots of wildlife adventures planned for 2025, I look forward to seeing you all there!

If you are interested in the wildlife of the UK then this is the channel for you! Here you will find Documentaries, fact files and wildlife trips from around the UK.
A Shot Of Wildlife was created by me, Liam Smith. I have a degree in zoology, have worked for wildlife rescue and now work in biodiversity and wildlife education. I have always been passionate about wildlife and since making these videos my passion and knowledge is growing by the day. I want to share with you the stories and facts about the wildlife that surrounds us every day. There is nature all around us and it needs our help. The first stage of this in my opinion is education and awareness, thats what A Shot Of Wildlife is for.
If you have any questions or comments about anything you see in the videos, please leave a comment and I will get back to you.
Thanks for checking out the channel and enjoy!
