The practice of keeping fish in tiny bowls is outdated and inhumane, just like keeping birds in very small cages. Those cages -- while still used -- are much less common today and are often called "antique bird cages", used as decorative novelties and not actually for keeping birds.
As our understanding of proper fish care grows, keeping fish in small bowls could also become a thing of the past.
Bettas need 5+ gallons, a filter, heater, and lots of plants and hiding spots to create a stimulating environment.
