Hello everyone!

The latest Core-A Podcast episode (27) features Patrick "Pat the Flip" Miller, a longtime fighting game player, former editor of Game Developer Magazine, and now a producer on Riot Games' upcoming 2XKO!

Patrick dives deep into why fighting games feel so difficult to learn compared to other genres. While most games are designed to make players feel powerful, fighting games expose your skill—and your personality—in real time, forcing you to confront vulnerability in front of others. It’s not just about execution; it’s about growth, ego, and community.

We explore Patrick’s incredible journey through the FGC, including his time as an editor at Game Developer Magazine and the golden age of Shoryuken.com forums and early FGC journalism and finally, his transition into Riot Games and work on 2XKO.

Whether you're a fighting game veteran or just curious about game design, this conversation is packed with insights on learning, community, and the future of the genre.

Highlights of this podcast episode will be available free to view later on at the ‪@CoreALounge‬ channel

Hope you all enjoy!

Hello Everyone!

This week's Core-A Podcast features one of France's prominent Street Fighter players, Nathan "Mister Crimson" Massol.

Mister Crimson is widely recognized as a Dhalsim specialist, a title that carries significant weight given Dhalsim's unique status within the Street Fighter franchise. As an unconventional character, Dhalsim defies logic and offers more than just 'magic moves' in the fighting game realm. He serves as the foundation for the 'Long Range' character archetype, influencing numerous characters across various franchises.

Mister Crimson's story and mindset are truly remarkable. He has successfully elevated this controversial character to one of the highest competitive levels in the franchise, the Capcom Cup. During the podcast, we discussed his unique experiences and stories of thriving in the fiercely 'tier-list based' competition, as well as his future plans to nurture the French FGC. This includes his support for the upcoming Evo France event and his many global endeavors as a devoted member of the FGC family.

As always, full episodes will be available for YouTube and Patreon Members (A-Tier and higher), while selected highlights will be uploaded to our Core-A Lounge channel.

Thank you!

Hello, Everyone!

We’ve got some exciting news to share! Later this week, a special 7vs7 team tournament between Pakistan and Korea in #Tekken8 will take place, featuring legends like Knee, Ulsan, Rangchu, Arslan Ash, Atif Butt, and more!
They will battle it out to determine which region currently reigns supreme in Tekken.

Also, Gerald will be at the event, providing English commentary alongside the talented cast of Spag, Majin Obama, and Brownman. It’s going to be an incredible showdown, and we can’t wait to see how it unfolds!

For more information of the event, I highly recommend you follow all of the mentioned commentators on social media, as they will actively mention details of the event throughout the week.

Majin Obama: x.com/2dJazz
Brownman: x.com/BrownmanFgc

To celebrate, we’re releasing a full episode of the Core-A Podcast featuring Rangchu. We recorded this episode shortly after his victory at the Tekken World Tour 2024 Finals. You can soon find it on our ‪@CoreALounge‬ channel*.

Here’s something unique about this episode: since we’re based in Korea, our Korean guests, including Rangchu, naturally spoke in Korean, and we hosted the podcast in Korean as well.

However, we understand that our main audience is key, so we’ve created two versions of this episode for you:
1. Members-Only English Dubbed Version: Gerald and I dubbed the episode into English (yes, Gerald even dubbed his own Korean lines into English!).
2. English Subtitled Version: This version is available for everyone, so both our Korean audience and international viewers can enjoy it.

In the podcast, Rangchu shares fascinating stories about how he’s woven Tekken into his life, family, and career.

If you’re a fan of Rangchu, Pandas, Bears and Tekken in general, we highly recommend checking it out in your spare time.

Thank you all for your continued support! We hope to see more of you over on our ‪@CoreALounge‬ channel.

Hello, everyone!

This week on the Core-A Podcast, we discussed the Evo Awards, the first-ever awards ceremony dedicated exclusively to the FGC. Unlike other award shows, the Evo Awards stay true to the FGC's boundaries, such as ensuring that only fighting games are nominated for categories like "Best Fighting Game"—no unrelated titles sneaking in!

We also took a moment to pay our respects to In-Su "Saulabis" Baek and his family for his invaluable contributions to the Korean FGC. Sadly, Saulabis recently passed away due to health issues, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him and his work.

Hello everyone!

This week’s Core-A Podcast features a very special guest: James Chen, the official in-game commentator for Street Fighter 6!

James is an OG personality in the FGC and proudly calls himself the "91'er"—a nod to the year Street Fighter II first hit arcades and changed the gaming world forever.

In this episode, we dive deep into the art of commentary and its audience, as well as how social media has transformed—and sometimes overshadowed—meaningful discussions that could have been pillars of support for the ever-growing FGC.

Did you know there was a time when commentary was seen as unnecessary or even a distraction? Back then, players just wanted to focus on the gameplay without any explanations. James believes this was because the FGC was primarily made up of competitive players. Today, however, the FGC speaks to a much broader and more diverse audience, which means it must constantly adapt to the ever-changing trends and dynamics of the community.

The full podcast episode will be available tonight for YouTube and Patreon members (A-Tier and above). Shortly after, we’ll release some highlights on our ‪@CoreALounge‬ channel for everyone to enjoy.

As always, thank you for watching and supporting Core-A Gaming!
