Ready for the holiday Monday? Here's a little inspiration. In this video I'll show you how to get ribs done and tender in about an hour. Don't get me wrong, we're not talking about fall-off-the-bone tender. We are talking a nice easy bite that pulls right off the bone. And we'll get it done by cooking directly over the coals the whole time. I polled you guys 3 weeks ago and asked you where you think your grilling/knowledge/skills rank. 48 percent of the 29 people who took part in the pole ranked themselves as a Novice ( you kinda know what you're doing but want to level up). The things you learn when you challenge yourself to do cooks like this is how you level up. Let's go!

Nothing makes you start questing God like trials. But not just any trials. I'm talking about trials that affect people you LOVE. People that have been serving God all their lives. Hey, I know I come up short. But mom has served God all her life, faithfully. And yet here she is, in a state of mind where she can hardly tell what's real and what isn't.
In situations like this we start hitting God with those "why" questions. And the one that keeps hitting me the most is "if you're not going to heal her, why leave her in this state? Why not just take her on home?" She has lived this thing the best she knows how. To end up in a place where she can barely tell what's real from what isn't. And it's not just her. Mom has/had 10 siblings. 7 girls and 4 boys in all. The first one of "the 11" died recently. I can't help but feel like it's the beginning of a "domino effect", where they will start to slowly go home, one after the other. Most of the women are already showing signs of dementia and/or Alzheimer's. How is that "just", you know? How-or why-does this happen to people who have spent their entire lives serving God all they know how? I could go so much deeper, but I won't. Thank you all for your prayers.

Wanted to thank those of you who stopped by and commented on the last video I posted. It meant a LOT to me, especially sense I didn't post a recipe. Now about this beautiful photo my wife took! I and two of my siblings have been helping take care of mom by taking turns having her come stay with us on weekends.
I think I told you guys that my brother, who was her primary care taker, had a stroke and is now in a nursing home. They were both living at mom's house. So when this happened, my sister had to move mom in with her. Now neither of my brother OR our mom is able to live there, for the foreseeable future.
Mind you, my sister already has a daughter that's paralyzed from the neck down. So for those keeping score, she's taking care of her daughter, my mom AND making regular trips to the nursing home where my brother is (an hour commute that she does twice a week).
So anyway, the 3 of us have been really trying to pull together to share the load as much as possible so my sister doesn't end up having a nervous breakdown. But she still bears the most of it. When mom is with us for the weekend we try to love on her as much as possible. She came out on the deck while I was getting things set-up for a hot and fast brisket cook and took an interest in the whole process of cooking on a grill (mom an excellent cook, but sadly it's another thing she can't do anymore) .
But she was intrigued about how I use charcoal to cook the food, and how temperature is regulated, etc etc. In this photo I was explaining how I use the vents to change the temperature. My wife saw a great photo opp and took advantage. It will go down as one of my favorite photos ever of us.
So, my posting schedule is kinda off guys. I'm not posting as often as I used to, but I'm still here! When I do post though, I need you guys to drop some engagement on it if you can. Likes, comments, a good long view (anything over 50% of the video is GREAT), are all things the algorithm uses to figure out if a video is any good. I'm going to try to post a video for you guys for Easter. I have two smoked ham video, so I think I'm going to combine them both into one longer one that shows both recipes.
Love you guys.

Have you ever heard of "The Backyard Chronicles"? Most people who visit my channel have no idea what this is. This video is for the small, loyal, faithful, praying, encouraging group of friends who have been following its' progress for 5 years now. It's been a minute, but I have a new update for you!

Can you believe the Super Bowl is next month? Normally I host a small Super Bowl party here at home, and grill up a bunch of grub. When I first started this it was just me, inviting my two brothers over to watch the game with me, and I provided the food.
My middle brother David brought a big screen projector with him the second year and we hooked it all up to surround sound. Instant tradition. He actually left that whole set-up with me and Sarah as a gift. Mind you, this is a high-end projector-not cheap at ALL. But that's just the kind of guy he is.
After a couple of years one of my cousins joined the group. We've done it for 4 years in a row if I'm not mistaken. But it won't be happening this year, and I'm not sure when it will happen again.
You see David just recently had a pretty serious stroke, and he's in the hospital right now. He's improving, but has a long road ahead of him. I'm not completely sure what the plan is this year. We may convene at my youngest brother's spot. Whatever we end up doing though, it won't be the same, man. If you're someone who prays please send one up for David. The whole family, really. The most likely cause of this stroke may have very well been the stress of being the sole caretaker for our mom, who is struggling with Dementia and Alzheimer's. So there's THAT too.
ANYWAY, so I'm on my channel right now because I'm about to put together a compilation for you guys featuring a few of my favorite appetizers I've done on the grill. I've done one before but I think I might make it an annual thing. Gives me a chance to add new recipes to it. Look for that later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for all the support, guys. You know who you are. -Ron

Today is my channel’s birthday! I launched Ron On The Grill 5 years ago today. One month later I posted my first video. Since then I’ve posted over 280 more, and I have no plans to stop.
If you have ever watched a video, left a comment, subscribed made one of my recipes I’d like to say thank you. A channel is nothing without viewers. But not just people who watch the videos.
Every youtube creator wants real connections and relationships with the people who watch the content. To that end, a special thanks to those of you who come by often enough that we actually know each other by name.
These conversations we have in the comments of videos mean everything to me. The only thing that means more is when someone tries one of my recipes and comes back to tell me about it. Best feeling ever. Thank you so much for being connected with me and supporting the content I do here. -Ron

As I'm typing this it's an absolutely beautiful December day in Dallas. I'm cooking and filming the next video that will post on my channel, a delicious Smoked Baked Potato Soup. It'll be part of a series of videos featuring smoked soups and stews I've made on the channel.
The first time I made this was years ago. I was fresh out of a divorce after being married 16 years. We had a home, and our two boys had been born there. That house and that school district was all they knew. They were still young and the news absolutely devastated them.
My ex and I decided to be amicable adults about the whole thing. I found out if two people can agree on every single point in the divorce they can file for divorce on line without ever involving a lawyer, so one day we sat down in front of a computer and did just that.
To avoid any further hurt and upheaval for the boys than they were already experiencing, I decided to walk away from everything with nothing. I gave her the house and everything in it. I left with only my car and my clothes.
After some time living at mom's I finally got my own apartment. I had no furniture or anything, just my clothes. After I started to get established there I finally did go back and ask my ex for one thing. My Crock Pot. I bought it, and it was the only thing I wanted. For a second she actually tried to protest it, but I think she knew that was wrong, so she gave it to me.
I would go on to do most of my cooking with that crockpot, and one of those recipes was a delicious Baked Potato soup, designed to be done in a crock pot. Years later I would meet, fall in love and marry my current wife. She would visit me often when I was single, and she loved that soup. We are coming up on our 8th year of marriage soon.
So, even though I'm making a smoked version of the original recipe I found on the internet, the recipe comes with a lot of nostalgia and good memories for me. When my oldest son got his own place I bought him a crock pot as a housewarming present. I told him "every single man should have a crock pot, so you can actually cook for yourself instead of spending all your money on fast food and take-out. He absolutely loved it and still uses it regularly today.
Now if you'll excuse me, it's time to go check on my Smoked Baked Potato Soup! Look for the video soon. :)

I'm an average guy who happens to love grilling and bbqing in my back yard. I try to make my videos reflect that, from the feel of my videos to the channel name. No company or business name, just me, Ron-cooking on my grills.
For me BBQing is about so much more than the food. It's the sights, sounds, atmosphere and overall peace it gives me. I try to include those elements in my videos so you they give you same feeling when you watch. And, since nothing completes a nice relaxing evening out in the backyard like some good music, I often include some of that too. My hope is that when you watch the videos you'll find them both informative and relaxing. At the end, I hope you feel like you've been hanging out with a friend while he's cooking up something good on the grill.
