DASHING ASHES AU SPECIAL SCENE

-Conclusion-

Thunder's POV:

Lightning Tail was waiting by the camp exit. Thunder waved his tail in greeting.
“Sorry I took so long, I know you said before dusk, but I was helping the rogues who joined us.” Thunder explained.
Lightning Tail flicked a leaf out of his own fur. “Yeah, I was told to gather herbs with Moon Petal and Tom. It was the worst. Moon Petal is so annoying! Tom and I ditched him after a while.” He added with a chuckle.
Thunder nodded, reflecting he actually expected Tom to have been the problem. “Cool. . . So um. . . Let's go on that walk.”
He swore he could feel five cats watching, and was pretty sure it was a she-cat and four toms.
The forest gleamed under the moonlight, dazzling brilliant while covered in the cold pelt of leaf-bare.
Lightning Tail hesitantly reached his tail out to Thunder’s. Thunder felt his heart pounding in his chest, he was sure Lightning Tail could hear it. He curled his tail with Lightning Tail’s.
The two had slowed to the pace of a turtle five seconds from death.
Lightning Tail gazed at the tangle of leafless branches above.
Thunder sat down, spotting stars peaking their way into the usually covered forest. Lightning Tail sat beside him, purring louder than the growl of a monster.
The breeze nipped at Thunder’s paws, he shifted closer to Lightning Tail in an attempt to stay warm. Lightning Tail laid his head on Thunder’s shoulder, twining his tail tighter with his companion’s.
As the forest darkened around him, Thunder’s anxieties seemed to melt. It was so peaceful, stars sparkling above and turning the dusting of snow silver.
The only thing that broke the serenity was how cold it became. Eventually, it was too much to bear, and they stood up, beginning to head home.
“So. . . Did you figure it out?” Lightning Tail broke the silence, hardly a whisper.
Thunder took a deep breath, more sure than he'd ever been before. “Yes. I return your feelings.”
Lightning Tail's face brightened, visible even with the growing darkness. “Cool. That's. . . Really cool.”
“We should do this again.” Thunder suggested.
“Oh yes!” Lightning Tail exclaimed. “I mean. . . Yeah. Sure.” His voice grew hilariously squeaky.
Thunder snorted with amusement.
Lightning Tail batted him playfully. “Hey! I'll make you sleep on the ground!”
“I made the nest! You can't kick me out of my own nest!” Thunder retorted.
“I changed the moss! Therefore it's more *my* nest than yours!” Lightning Tail shot back.
“By that logic, it's Dew’s nest, she's the one who gathers all the moss!” Thunder reasoned.
As they arrived at camp, Bumble, who seemed to be on guard that night, dipped her head. “Good evening.” Her whiskers were twitching so much Thunder wondered if they'd gained sentience.
Lightning Tail eyed her. “Why were you staring at us earlier?”
Bumble gave a short purr of amusement. “No reason, really. I was just wondering if you'd finally asked Thunder on a date.” She responded bluntly.
*What's a ‘date’? *Thunder figured it was a two-leg word akin to courtship or something.
The two headed to their den, Nettle was awake, fidgeting in his nest, he sat bolt-upright as they slid inside. “Are you mates now or not?!” He demanded.
“. . . Nettle you. . . You can't just. . . Well, you *shouldn't* just ask that. . .” Thunder struggled for words.
Nettle flopped down. “Sorry! But are you?!”
*Missed the point*. Thunder held in a sigh, it wasn't Nettle’s fault. He reminded himself.
Lightning Tail replied with a shrug. “Not yet, technically.”
Nettle seemed satisfied with that answer, then promptly fell asleep.
Thunder settled down in his nest, cuddling closer to Lightning Tail than usual.
*I guess if Lightning Tail is my mate, then Acorn Jur is like my sister. . . Never expected my kit-hood friends to be my kin. . . Life's so unpredictable*.

Dark Forest Trainees AU part 21!!!

The last rays of sunlight stretched across the camp, it had been half a moon since the battle with the foxes.
Ivypool felt a stab of grief. Regret weighed like a stone in her chest. *I still can't believe it. . .*
A few days after the battle, they'd found the white fox, dead, near two dead fox-kits. Who'd starved to death, they guessed.
Even though that fox had tried to kill them, she couldn't shake away the horror that their actions had taken two innocent lives.
The only good news was Thornclaw's recovery. He was back on his paws and patrolling as normal.
“Wait for me! My legs shorter than yours!” Stormkit darted across the clearing, tottering after Darktail.
Ivypool felt a purr rising in her throat. Stormkit had grown incredibly attached to her mother's brother. Since she'd been able to walk she was constantly following him around.
She spotted Flourishkit and Shadekit tumbling around beside Raven and Minnowtail.
Mousewhisker joined them, pressing his muzzle to Minnowtail's cheek.
To absolutely no one's surprise, the two were now mates.
Apparently, Minnowtail *was* supposed to be the medicine cat. Just last night, she'd received a vision. Ivypool had seen it too, the whole group had.
“The time has come,” A grey tom with yellow eyes had told them. “For another clan to rise. Minnowtail, StarClan may have their doubts about you but I don't. You are the cat destined to protect these cats. Moth Flight, the first medicine cat, should be the one to tell you this. but, she doesn't approve of your taking of a mate.” He'd explained, calm and worriless.
Minnowtail's eyes had shone with such amazement. She'd been lost for words for the longest time.
Ivypool had wondered if the tom would say Minnowtail must give up her mate, but he said no more and had been gone in a heartbeat.
Ivypool whisked her tail. *Now we need a leader and deputy. Then we will truly be a clan.*
“Are you thinking about last night?”
Ivypool nearly jumped out of her skin. “For StarClan’s sake, Darktail, don't sneak up on me!”
He flinched, closing his left eye as he did so. “Sorry.” He murmured quietly. “I needed to talk to you though.”
Ivypool smoothed her ruffled fur. “What is it?”
Darktail swished his tail. “I haven't seen Ratscar since dawn. . . And the sun is setting.” Worry was visible in his eyes.
Ivypool nodded. “Alright. Let's see if anyone wants to go on a search party.”
Darktail seemed confused by her response but nodded back.
Ivypool headed out ahead of the others, her paws seeming to lead her. She reached a large willow tree. It had large winding branches, so tall and thick, it seemed the canopy reached the clouds.
She spotted Whiskernose at the base of the tree, gazing up. He was murmuring something, Ivypool crept closer, ears strained.
“Come on, you can't stay up there all day.” He was sitting a good few fox-lengths away from the trunk.
“No! I'm staying up here! Fluff off!” Ratscar snarled, he was perched on the lowest branch, claws sunk deep into the bark.
“Ratscar, I'm not leaving you up in a tree. I won't leave you anywhere. Ever. I promise.” Whiskernose mewed gently.
Ratscar hissed furiously. “You're a liar! Just like the rest! I won't be tricked into caring again! I have myself and that's all I need!”
Whiskernose tipped his head. “You've been getting along with Larkpaw, Darktail, and I just fine. What changed?”
Ratscar pressed himself closer to the bark. “Everyone I care about dies! So I can't love anyone! I refuse! Now leave me in my tree!”
Whiskernose shook his head. “But if you die. . . Then half the cats I love will have died.”
“Stop! Don't love me! You'll die next!” Ratscar wailed, panic shining in his eyes.
Whiskernose shook his head again. “I'm old, old cats die. I won't die just because I love you. I promise. It doesn't work like that.”
Ratscar slowly detached his claws from the branch. “No. You can't die.” He whimpered.
Whiskernose stood up. “I don't plan to, just please come down, it's getting dark.” he coaxed.
Ratscar slithered down the trunk, almost collapsing beside Whiskernose. Whiskernose helped him to his paws, the old brown tabby looked deeply ashamed.
Whiskernose caught Ivypool's eye. “Oh hello, Ivypool.”
Ratscar glared at her, seeming to wonder how long she'd been standing there.
Ivypool dipped her head. “I was just looking for Ratscar, Darktail said he hadn't seen you all day.”
Ratscar scoffed. “Then he should have come looking for me himself. I'd like to see my friend, not some random bratty silver tabby.” he spat.
*StarClan forbid, I exist too loudly.* Ivypool fought back a sigh. *Wait, did he just call Darktail his friend? Well then.*

Ivypool reached the camp far before the two senior toms.
“Did you find him?” Breezepelt demanded, fur bristling.
“Yes, he and Whiskernose were patrolling.” She lied.
Breezepelt lashed his tail. “Well, why'd it take them all day?” He hissed.
Ivypool padded past him and to her den.

Dark Forest Trainees AU part 20

Ivypool had settled down with Blossomfall and Birchfall. Thornclaw hadn't moved a whisker since being laid in his nest, but his breathing had steadied.
Blossomfall leaned against Ivypool’s shoulder.
Ivypool was deep in thought, recounting the events from only a few minutes ago.
“I think it's clear,” Heathertail had begun, “that we should allow Darktail back into our group.” she’d announced.
Ratscar had been the first to speak. “I agree. He risked his life for us after we imprisoned him.”
Breezepelt had scoffed scornfully. “You're only saying that because he saved you. Don't get me wrong, I also agree, but Ratscar, is well, an idiot.”
Ratscar had sprung up, being held back by Whiskernose.
It wasn't even a question at that point, it was unanimous, Darktail was a part of their group again.
Of course, cats had their concerns, Blossomfall, Mousewhisker, Breezepelt and obviously Ratscar, were all a little skeptical, and for good reason!
Ivypool had made her support for the troubled tom quite clear. *After seeing how determined he was to protect even Ratscar, a cat who'd despised him from the beginning, there's no doubt in my mind that he belongs here.*
She snapped out of her thoughts as a long, drawn-out, whine of pain sounded.
Horror tied a knot in her stomach, hurrying into the clearing, she saw Raven lying on her side, panting heavily.
Rain had rushed over to Minnowtail’s den. “Minnowtail! Raven’s kits are coming!”
Ivypool’s fear was not quelled. Her kits weren't *that* early, but she didn't know if it was safe for them to be born yet. She knew the length of pregnancies varied, so maybe it was okay.
Blossomfall followed Ivypool, heading across the clearing, making it Ivypool's turn to follow.
Raven let out a frustrated hiss. “See this, this is one of the reasons I didn't want kits.” She was trying to sound humorous, agony shining in her eyes.
Blossomfall’s eyes widened, but she did not comment.
Darktail lapped her cheek. “You'll be okay. I promise.”
Raven snorted. “No offense, brother, but that's not how this works. Unless I can force Rose to have the kits himself, there's no guarantee of anything.”
Rain and Minnowtail returned at that moment. “You seem energetic, pretty sure that's good,” Minnowtail commented.
“Yes, it is.” Rain confirmed. “What?” He asked, at the weird looks. “All three of us,” -he gestured at his family- “Have seen plenty of kittings.”
Raven batted at Rain. “I'm naming the ugliest one after you.”
Rain fluffed out his pelt. “Excuse me?!”
Darktail covered his mouth with a paw, evidently hiding a laugh.
Raven was unfazed. “Be glad one is getting named after you at all!”
“So are you giving them clan names?” Blossomfall asked.
Raven shot her a glare. “I said I was going to, remember?”
*I guess her being angry is better than wallowing in her pain.*
Minnowtail pressed a paw against Raven’s flank. “Okay. . . uh. . .”
Rain pushed her aside. “I know what I’m doing. You clearly do not.” he snapped.
Ivypool’s paws shifted nervously, the night stretched on, but before long, the first kit had been delivered.
Minnowtail started vigorously lapping the kit. He was an almost red ginger, as Minnowtail groomed him, his pelt was revealed to be longer than most newborn’s.
Raven eyed her son with a hollow look, she sniffed him once, then looked away.

Dawn was breaking as the final kit was delivered, she was the same red as her eldest brother, with black patches on her face, front paws and ears.
Raven curled around the kits, nuzzling them for a brief moment. She looked beyond exhausted, resting her head on the ground, still panting.
Minnowtail was watching intently, drinking in every detail.
Ivypool stood up, legs aching from being in the same position for so long, she headed off to her den, Blossomfall promising to join her after checking on Thornclaw.
Larkpaw was already awake, heading over to join Mousewhisker and Icewing, the least injured and best rested of the group.
Ivypool’s side started burning hotter with agony with each step she took.
She saw Whiskernose still in his nest, curled up with the ground sleeper, Ratscar, who was not sleeping on the ground for once.
Ivypool flopped down in her nest, falling asleep before her eyes even closed.

“No! Please don't go! Come back!”
Ivypool was once more in a dark void, something she’d grown accustomed to.
A brown tom was chasing after a tortoiseshell she-cat. “Mom! Mom! Don't go!”
A brown tabby scampered after the brown tom.
The tortoiseshell glared at the brown tom. “You’re a grown cat, shut up. Stop your whining!”
The tabby snarled at the she-cat. “Fox-heart! Won't even stick around to see your grandson grow up?!”
The tortoiseshell huffed. “You mean that runt you found beside the fountain?”
“He has a name!” The tabby snapped.
The tortoiseshell shrugged. “Toad? Whatever. It doesn't matter to me what you name the piece of thistle fluff.”
The brown tom leaned against the other, shaking and crying.
*Toad? That name. . . Just keeps coming up.* Ivypool tipped her head.
The tabby lapped the brown tom's cheek. “Don't worry, you don't need someone so cruel in your life. We don't want her influencing Toad!” He was trying to sound optimistic.
The brown tom shook his head. “She's still my mother. . .”

Ivypool stretched, slowly opening her eyes.
“Ivypool!” Breezepelt jabbed her in the ribs. “Oh wait I forgot you fell on your side. Sorry. Anyway, Raven wants you. She's naming her kits.”
Ivypool wanted to claw him, agony shooting through her injured side.
She made her way over to Raven and Rain's den (Darktail was there too again, she guessed). Raven looked up, smiling warmly at Ivypool.
Darktail and Rain were already there, Darktail was grooming the newborns’ pelts, a loud purr rolling in his throat.
Blossomfall slid into the den. “I was told by a spikey critter I was wanted here.”
Raven nodded. “Yes, I'm naming my kits now.”
The black and red she-kit let out a shrill squeal.
Raven looked up at Rain. “She's the ugliest, just like you.”
Rain drew his lips back in a snarl.
Raven's nose twitched. “No. . . That's an insult to Stormkit. Stormkit, that's her name.” She decided aloud.
Rain's fur flattened. “Good. That's a good name.”
Raven nosed the firstborn kit. “He will be Flouishkit.” She looked up at Blossomfall and Ivypool. “You both have plant names, and plants flourish.”
Ivypool felt like she'd been stabbed through the heart, she fought back her tears of joy. “I'm honored!” She exclaimed.
Raven purred. “And this one,” she flicked her tail over her second kit's shoulder, a white, red, and black she-kit. “will be Shadekit.”
Darktail's head snapped up. “Named after. . ?” His question was hardly audible.
Raven booped his nose with a front paw. “You.”
Darktail gazed at his sister in shock. He stared at his sister in awe, then gazed down at Shadekit, eyes shining with wonder.
Ivypool bit back an amused purr. He looked like a kit on their first day exploring camp. Flourishkit let out a squeal. Ivypool bent forward and sniffed her.
