I got some bad news from my doctor yesterday. It seems that I have a retinal tear in my right eye which is the same one that was operated on before. I go in for surgery tomorrow and will be out of commission for a while. It is pretty frustrating, but there is nothing I can do about it. I have had a total of two weeks of vision with that eye since last October, but that is all I get for a few more months at least. If you haven't seen my video explaining what was going on I will post a link to it here. I might be able to get one last video released today and after that we will just have to wait and see. (pun intended 😁)

I am in the middle of editing an epic repair of an IBM PC 5150 motherboard. Which would you rather watch? A 60 minute video with all the details and troubleshooting rabbit holes --OR-- a 30 minute video that skips over the details and gets to the final result more quickly???

This roughed up PC was left outside on its way to scrap. What's that inside? Yes. A Sound Blaster AWE32!

I found something else I can do with the current state of my eyes. Pull chips from wire wrap boards I found at e-waste! The gold ceramic chips are 1101 memory chips -- Intel's first commercially successful product.

Welcome to the Retro Hack Shack! My name is Aaron and on this channel I make, break, and hack on vintage computer systems and other technology. I have a love of computers from the 70s, 80s, and 90s and decided to start filming my adventures with them.
A little about me ...
I have been a maker since I was old enough to hold a screwdriver. I have worked in the IT industry for companies like Cisco, New Relic, NetApp, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, and Hewlett Packard. I co-host several shows about technology for TWiT.tv including FLOSS Weekly. In 2012 I founded Benicia Makerspace. I also wrote a book called Linux for Makers which you can find in the links below.
