Hi there - here are some of the pages I’ve worked into using my messy background method. It’s really fun and helps you add other elements such as prints and drawings in a dynamic way. Video up now! Catherine x

Sorry there was no video last week - I’ve been quite busy prepping for a Christmas exhibition I’m organising in our village in a couple of weeks time. But I am working on some Christmas card designs here’s one version, that I hope will be up later this week.
I’ve also been decorating some tiny oxen for another charity auction for Sobell House Hospice in Oxford. Meet Sylvia and Coppernicus!
How are you and are you super busy leading up to Christmas? Catherine x

I hope you saw my video where I made some handmade books in 3 different ways. Well I’ve been doing a lot of work in mine, which occasionally meant my studio getting pretty messy! I’ve been collaging, printing and painting over the last couple of weeks and filming a lot of it too.
My video where I go through every page and show you what techniques I used will be up in the next couple of days.
Has anyone else been working in a book?

I can’t seem to stop making books! I’m going to be showing how to make this very simple sown structure in a couple of weeks and I’d love you to join in with me.
So start collecting papers of any sort or weight. Here I’ve used some of my old prints of various sorts (a great use for ones that didn’t turn out well at the time) plus some handmade paper, cartridge and graphic paper. Also I’ve added some found papers - I had a vintage book that was falling apart and some old maps. You could also include music paper, wrapping paper or envelopes whatever you might have squirrelled away.
The idea is to then add a cover and add more decoration, painting or drawing or printing to make a really personal mini work of art. Let me know if you’re up for the challenge!

My next video, which will be up very soon, has been several months in the making.
I have been filming all the highs and lows of designing and painting my ox for Oxtrails, a public art trail in Oxford. I had some problems along the way and had to find some creative solutions.
I’m pretty honest about all the doubts so it’s also quite a personal story. Plus you’ll get glimpses of all the other oxen on the trail and I’ve added some (quite simple) animations! Catherine x

I’m going to be sharing this travel journal that I made very soon. It has lots of easy, fun ideas of documenting a holiday or an occasion without having to do any ‘traditional’ drawing and painting. I hope you’ll enjoy it. Cx

Hi there - After my video where I showed how I draw with a needle seemed to go down well, I’m going to do an in depth guide to free machine embroidery soon . It will show you how to set up your machine, fill in large areas and awkward places and even do writing with it. Please ask any questions you may have.
The first photo shows the back of a small piece as my camera couldn’t seem to focus on the front. Catherine x

Hello and a warm welcome to new subscribers (as well as you who’ve been here a while!) - I’m so grateful that you’ve shown an interest in my channel.
My next video will be about the methods you can use to transfer an image from a photograph onto paper or fabric - some of them a bit hit and miss, some more reliable.
I love taking photos of bare branches in winter and thought that would make a good subject for a simple graphic to show the processes.
Let me know if you’d like a video about how to tweak a photo in image editing software.

My mission is to cultivate creativity by showing how you can use your garden to create art!
My garden is both my source of inspiration and a place to find material to print with. I grow mostly perennials and annuals and have a dedicated cutting garden where I grow flowers for making bouquets.
In 2024 I have an exhibition as part of Oxfordshire ARTWEEKS at the end of May, and have had a design selected to decorate a life size ox as part of Oxtrails - a public art trail in Oxford in the summer.
I make mixed media prints and books, and textiles with lots of surface decoration and both hand and machine stitch.
I like unusual techniques (I have a Thermofax printer and a digital embroidery machine) and love cyanotype printing.
See my website called A Creative Garden, where I blog about having an artful garden and making art from your garden.
