In my latest video I shared some of my favorite books, one of which is The Idiot by Dostoevsky. It's a commitment to pick up a Dostoevsky book, but thanks to Librivox you can listen to pretty much all of them for free. Here's a great intro to his writing: https://youtu.be/YrZz4WtkNTs?si=OmNP2...

What do you think? Should I keep making community posts to share what I'm reading and some off-topic thoughts?

A few years ago when I recreated a carbon filament light bulb I consolidated the first Edison patent in this image. It's really a very interesting read. Here's the full res image if it's hard to read here: imgur.com/0S9VxB4

More than a decade ago I spent a lot of my time figuring out how to make steel drum type musical instruments called hand pans (or hang drums). The science of causing metal to resonate at different notes just by pounding it into a slightly different shape is incredibly fascinating to me. One of the most difficult parts of making a hand pan is tuning the "overtones" of each note, and I never really understood overtones at the time to know why my pans sounded so bad even when the root note was in tune. Anyways, this video is about a different instrument entirely, but it's the best demo of overtones that I've ever seen: https://youtu.be/VAgXpCK_4gA?si=kTWp2...

You'll find it more interesting than you think! I kinda want to make another hand pan now that I know a little more on this topic.

I attended my first ever youtube event last year and it was well worth the trip. Just about everyone I watch on youtube was at Open Sauce 2024, and it seems like this year may be even bigger. It would be great to meet you there! opensauce.com/

I'd say my DIY cooling fibers have seen some improvement! The next video should be in September, and at that time I hope to have this stuff put to practical use!

For those interested in seeing more of the things I'm working on you can follow my second channel: youtube.com/@nhilextra?si=0elkrIg0l8QZrmJQ

Patreon livestreams are made public on that channel some time later than their recording. If you've seen my recent PCM project you will find the referenced stream in which I attempted a caloriometry experiment on the 18C PCM sample to compare cooling capacity with ice.
