Just recorded my first Epiphany Jam podcast episode in Shanghai. The idea is to craft a deep convo around a single concept. This time it was about: ā€œFulfillmentā€. This was a super fun sesh with my Brian Mun and with the setup help of new friend Matthew. I’ve had this idea for years and am glad to finally pull the trigger!!

About to board my flight to Shanghai āœˆļø

The last time I was in my birth city was December 2019 - right before the world changed. I was still working in tech for an AI startup, attending a conference put on by our VC investors. Still living my old definition of success.

That trip marked the beginning of my last 5-year cycle. Everything that followed: the deep personal work, starting YouTube, leaving corporate, building Mind Map Nation. None of it existed yet. I was a completely different person.

This time I’m coming back as someone in (more) control of my time and mind, my only agenda is to see where life wants to take me. No conferences, no networking events, no predetermined outcomes. Just presence and curiosity about what wants to unfold.

This is the season of one-way tickets.

There's something profound about returning to your beginning after you've become someone new, a step closer to who you were meant to be.

I'll be sharing glimpses of this journey as it unfolds. Sometimes the best trips are the ones where you pack light on plans and heavy on openness.

Here we go. šŸŒ

My dear friends, I've been deeply moved by your responses to my Two Wolves Map video. Your stories of impossible decisions—from career crossroads to identity shifts to relationship transitions—confirm what I’ve experienced too: binary thinking traps us in different ways: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkPYN...

So many of you resonated with the idea that our most painful choices often aren't really choices at all, but invitations to discover hidden third paths beyond the ā€œeither/orā€ thinking that keeps us stuck.

To explore these powerful ideas more deeply, I'm hosting a special **LIVE Deep Dive Discussion** on Mapping Impossible Decisions with Epiphany Mapping.

šŸ“… **Date:** Friday, May 30th
ā° **Time:** 8:00 AM Pacific
šŸ”— **Location:** www.mindmapnation.com/ (Become a member today!)

During this session, we'll cover:

1. **Beyond Binary Thinking** - Change can be painful and we tend to gravitate towards emotional Binary Decisions. How do you uncover hidden options when conventionally ā€œobvious choicesā€ feel wrong?
2. **Black Wolf Mapping** - How do you offload and deconstruct complex sources of resistance to tackle the roots, not branches?
3. **White Wolf Mapping** - How do you shift away from the problem to the solution state while upholding your values, even under stress?
4. **80/20 Rule of Change** - How to see our transitions ā€œas a systemā€ to identify the 20% of drivers causing 80% of pain through connecting map elements.
5. **Other Applications** - Using this tool for career pivots, business decisions, big relocations, and health and lifestyle changes

I'll be live-mapping our conversation in real-time, helping us connect the dots and discover third paths you might not see yet.

Mind Map Nation members will also receive the **Extended Learning Edition** with 35% more content including:

- The "**Guest vs. Host**" mindset for graceful transitions inspired by Eastern philosophy
- My "**Third Line**" framework for upholding your values through hard times
- The complete annotated Inner Wolves Map with deeper insights around its purpose and usage

Can't make it live? All Deep Dive Discussions are recorded for members to watch at their convenience.

Have you ever discovered a "third path" when faced with tough binary choices? What unexpected option emerged that honored both sides of your dilemma? Your wisdom might help others reading this! ✨

My dear friends, you ever notice how life's most crucial moments often come with impossible choices?

Stay or leave. Commit or quit. Fight or surrender.

I just released the most vulnerable video I've ever made - one that reveals how these binary choices are actually an illusion that keeps us trapped in suffering: https://youtu.be/JkPYNKXY38g

Six months ago, I faced the ultimate crossroads in my marriage. The pain of staying felt unbearable, yet the thought of leaving crushed my soul. What emerged through the darkness was a completely different path altogether.

In this deeply personal journey, you’ll discover:

1. How "either/or" Binary Thinking imprisons you in crisis moments
2. My exact *Inner Wolves Map* that transformed paralyzing conflict into profound clarity
3. The ancient Taoist secret to dissolving your problems rather than fighting them
4. How I ultimately saved my relationship through an unexpected path
5. The precise moment when these hidden paths appear in your darkest hour

This isn't armchair philosophy - it's a practical tool forged in life's crucible. When you're torn between two options that both feel like death, there is ALWAYS a third path that honors your WHOLE truth.

Which binary thinking patterns do you notice most in your life? ("Should I stay or leave?" "All-in or all-out?") What would it mean to discover there's another way through? šŸ‘‡

My dear friends, what if the most painful decisions in life aren't really decisions at all?

There's an old parable about two wolves living inside us - one dark, one light - locked in eternal battle. We're told the wolf we feed will win. But what if there's a third way to live with both?

Six months ago, I faced what seemed like an impossible choice: stay in a marriage that wasn't working or leave and lose everything I'd built. Both options felt like death. That's when I discovered that this desperate, binary thinking itself was the trap.

Tomorrow (May 25) at 7am PT, I'm sharing the Epiphany Mapping technique that revealed a hidden third path - one that saved my relationship by ending my marriage.

Yes, you read that correctly.

This isn't just about relationships. It's about every crossroads where "either/or" feels like choosing between two versions of failure. Where staying feels like dying slowly and leaving feels like dying quickly.

I’m here to tell you that there’s ALWAYS another way. One that honors your experience, feeds both wolves, while breathing new life and energy into your journey.

What impossible decision are you wrestling with right now where both choices feel equally wrong? 🫶

-Sheng

P.S. I wrote this letter to the Mind Map Nation community and Epiphany readers earlier this year on this difficult topic. May it help those who are going through their own darkness: www.mindmapnation.com/epiphany/following-the-gentl…

My dear friends, thank you for watching my latest video on "How to Turn Books Into Results": https://youtu.be/ChXJzbwAaLo. The comments have been incredible - it seems many of you also believe that true transformation comes from depth rather than volume šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ„¹ā¤ļø To deepen our exploration of this reading approach, I wrote this deep dive blog post on this 3-step reading system: www.mindmapnation.com/epiphany/why-reading-more-bo…

Plus I'm hosting a special LIVE Deep Dive Meetup this Friday (April 25) at 8AM Pacific in Mind Map Nation. We’ll get into questions like:

1) Selection: How do you decide which books to invest your time in? What signals tell you a book is worth ā€œextending your stay withā€?

2) Absorption: What note taking techniques have you found most effective for ā€œowningā€ concepts? How do you balance breadth vs. depth in your reading practice?

3) Utilization: How do you apply book knowledge to real-world situations? What systems have you developed to revisit and implement insights from your reading? What challenges do you face?

As always, I'll facilitate and live-map our conversation to help identify patterns and connections across our different perspectives.

Mind Map Nation members also get access to the Extended Learning Edition of this video with 30% more content including advanced diagramming examples and strategies for extracting first principles from any book: mindmapnation.com/

Can't make it live? No worries - all Deep Dive Discussions are recorded. Hope to see you there!

My dear friends, have you noticed how reading has become another form of binge consumption? In the digital age of Kindle and Audible, we blast through books like Netflix shows, racing through them only to forget most of what we read.

Here's the thing - we don't need more content and consumption. We need intentional curation and deeper integration of the wisdom we’re ingesting.

In this week’s video, I'm sharing my hyper effective approach to reading that's transformed how I navigate life's critical junctures: https://youtu.be/ChXJzbwAaLo

1. Selection - How to choose books based on necessity, not trends or FOMO
2. Absorption - The Epiphany Mapping method that turns writers into trusted advisors
3. Utilization - Converting insights into immediate action through Sprints and Projects

This isn't about reading more - it's about transforming how you think by truly internalizing the right ideas at the right time.

How do you make sure you actually remember and use what you read? Let me know in the comments! šŸ‘‡

My dear friends, what if I told you reading more books is actually hurting you?

Here's something that I discovered that no one's talking about: you can extract more usefulness from one deeply mapped book than most people get from 100 skimmed ones.

As the philosopher Seneca noted:

"You should be extending your stay amongst writers whose genius is unquestionable if you wish to gain anything from your reading that will find a lasting place in your mind. A multitude of books only gets in one’s way."

Tomorrow at 7am PT, I'm revealing my simple 3-step system for building a personal "Council of Advisors". You'll see exactly how I've integrated a handful of books like Antifragile, Tao Te Ching, and The War of Art so deeply that they shape my daily life.

Reading shouldn't be passive. It should guide your decisions, accelerate your growth, and transform information into real-world results.

Which writer has fundamentally changed how you think? I'd love to know who might be on your council. šŸ“š

My friend was recently diagnosed with ADHD. It was a profound moment for her—finally understanding why those years of struggling with focus and motivation weren't character flaws but simply her brain working differently. Yet alongside this relief came overwhelming uncertainty: figuring out medications, creating new routines, and adapting her life to work with her unique neurological wiring rather than against it.

I wanted to help, but not with generic advice or well-meaning platitudes. I wanted to create something genuinely useful—something that could serve as an on-demand guide tailored specifically to her situation. So I built her an AI ADHD coach that combined the scientific insights of Dr. Andrew Huberman with my productivity and life design strategies: https://youtu.be/lpijDLb3Bko

For me this project represented something I've believed since my days at Google:

Technology should serve people, not the other way around.

Yet our current trajectory often seems reversed—our attention and desires are increasingly commoditized, harvested, and manipulated by the very tools meant to empower and connect us.

And since the advent of generative AI, there's been a concerning obsession with increased productivity and output, fueled by greed and fear-based rhetoric about automation and job replacement. It seems like no one's really thrilled about this trajectory, yet everyone's being dragged behind a runaway train. Not even the mega tech companies or governments can stop the momentum because of the arms race nature of AI development.

That's why I wanted to provide not just a different perspective, but a practical demonstration of what's possible when we set aside the competition lens to embrace service and creativity. This is a summary of the timely and timeless principles I cover in my latest tutorial video: www.mindmapnation.com/epiphany/beyond-prompts-from…

If you’re interested in enhancing your learning, I’m hosting a Deep Dive Discussion in the Mind Map Nation community this Friday that explores these principles in greater detail plus a live demo of how I’d design an AI assistant from scratch.

🧠 Deep Dive Discussion: Building AI Coaches & Assistants in ChatGPT

Date: April 4, 2025
Time: 8:00 AM Pacific Time
Location: mindmapnation.com/

In this event, we’ll use my AI tutorial video as the jumping off point to explore topics like:

1) Design AI systems with clear purpose and intention
2) Turn specialized knowledge into actionable guidance
3) Create personalized systems that grow more valuable over time
4) Leverage AI as both a thinking partner and execution assistant

I’ll be using one of our community members’ recent project of starting a new bio-art podcast to real time demonstrate how I would create an AI assistant to help with launch strategy and build execution.

These Deep Dive Events transform my YouTube videos into interactive learning experiences where we can collectively explore concepts at a deeper level.

Dear friends, I just dropped a new tutorial where I show you how to build a custom AI Coach for just about any scenario! https://youtu.be/lpijDLb3Bko Beyond generic prompts, I'll teach you how to create AI SYSTEMS that actually solve REAL problems. You'll learn:

#1 My 4-step AI Recipe & Principles that work for any platform
#2 How to think like a system DESIGNER vs a prompt monkey
#3 How to leverage expert knowledge (in this case it's Andrew Huberman's @anlab + my productivity frameworks)

I demonstrate all these concepts in an AI Coach that helps people with genuine needs rather than just writing marketing copy.

Want the exact templates I used? Grab my free *AI Amplify Starter Pack* in the video description.

This isn't about theoretical AI concepts – it's about building something genuinely helpful that transforms how you use these tools. Who's ready to level up from basic prompts to powerful AI systems? Drop a 🧠 below if you're in! Also let me know what you'd like to see me build šŸ‘ŠšŸ¼

p.s. I'll be sharing a special debrief on the empathetic human-centric design principles that inspired this AI build video in this Wednesday's Epiphany newsletter so be sure to sign up if you haven't already: www.mindmapnation.com/epiphany
