Fact of the Day: The First Father’s Day was a service of lamentation in July 1908, mourning the loss of 360+ miners who perished in West Virginia, 250 of which were Fathers. Sonora Dodd’s celebration in June 1910 in Spokane was much more celebratory, honoring her father a Civil War veteran.
