Today is Friday the Thirteenth. Unlucky for some? Also the name of an extremely successful slasher / horror movie from 1980. This weekend’s challenge is to make a jam that would fit into a film of this type in that era. Scary? Shocking? Tense? Nervous? Making us jump? Shocking? Mysterious? Don’t forget, the film in question was made in 1980 so bonus kudos for any 80s sounds you can squeeze in! Time to make us hide behind a sofa that is adorned with geometric patterns and bold colours!
Please make your jam this weekend. Deadline for entries is the start of the stream on Monday, usually 8pm UK time. Please avoid using copyrighted audio or video content. If at all possible we would prefer a link to a YouTube post for your jam, Soundcloud and other platforms are increasingly fiddly to deal with within the stream.

After the very popular drone challenge we thought we would keep with restrictions and pull an old favourite out of the hat. I usually shout “two box jams!” At the admin crew every week. This week however, instead of limiting by the number of boxes, you have to choose only three elements from the following list to use in your jam.

Saturday, May 25th is International Drone Day. For this weekend’s challenge we take a dive into drones - not the flying kinds, but musical drones, sustained notes or sounds. The challenge is to make a jam with some droning elements. You can go full experimental and make a minimalist jam with just drones. Or you can take a melodic approach and think of melodies contrastic movement and static elements (maybe research pedal points in music theory?). Or you could look at folk music for inspiration: bagpipes are a good example of a melodic instrument with drones.
The challenge is open to jams made during this weekend, and keep it under 5 minutes. Don’t use copyrighted video or audio so we don’t have problems with the streamthrough. Post jams in the form below. We will have a streamthrough with all the jams on Monday evening and a playful vote until Thursday. The form will close once the stream starts, so no late entries, please.
