This afternoon while conducting speed enforcement on the right-hand shoulder of northbound SR-99 at Elk Grove Blvd, an officer observed a tractor-trailer traveling in the #1 lane at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was locked in at 74 MPH on LIDAR.
Upon conducting an enforcement stop, the driver exhibited objective signs of being under the influence. A Preliminary Alcohol Screening (P.A.S.) test yielded a result of 0.15%. A subsequent chemical breath test confirmed a result of 0.14% blood alcohol content.
Commercial drivers are held to a stricter standard and must maintain a BAC of 0.04% or less. Driving under the influence-especially in a commercial vehicle-puts lives at serious risk.
CHP South Sacramento reminds all drivers:
Drive sober. Drive safe. Everyone deserves to get home.
