I'm putting on a 5-Day Producer Challenge and I want to challenge YOU to join!

December 16-20th - you'll get to see every day as me and Andrew Barr (another pro producer) each produce our own version of the same song starting with a vocal stem.

You will also get that same vocal stem to make your own version!

If you wanna join or check it out - you can do that right here 👉 www.producerdvlp.com/5_day_challenge

I'm working on a new video where I'm showing the ENTIRE process of recording, producing, and mixing vocals on a song - it's around 5 hours of footage... what would you feel is the most valuable that you'd wanna watch?

I'm recording with a top tier symphony orchestra next week for a client project I'm producing - what questions would you have for me with a project like this?

There's a HUGE amount of work that goes into prepping this kind of session and mistakes are detrimental to the success of the project - these kinds of sessions are pretty high stakes with only 20 minutes to get everything recorded that we need. These are musicians who can literally sight read and nail the music in 2 takes

So there's a hefty amount of leg work to make sure there are no pauses or stops to be fixing issues.

I'm happy to answer any questions you got!

(also, yes, I am filming everything and will have a video showing the whole process soon!)

Would you want me to make more "composer" content on my channel around cinematic composing (not just producing)? (like how to write strings, how to score to film, etc.)

Logic Pro 11 has been announced to come out in May - the updates are:

- New "AI" Session Players (for bass, piano, etc.)
- "Stem Splitter" - appears to be a way to "split out" tracks from a full recording similar to AI splitters
- ChromaGlow - seems to be a preamp/saturation emulation tool

So the question... what do you think of this?

Question: if you have you seen videos of artists "making songs" by asking a friend "give me 3 words" or a parent and then they "spontaneously came up with the song or any kind of video involving getting a stranger involved...

If you found out all of it was staged (hate to be the bad news guy: all of it is staged) -- how would you feel?

PSA: you don't need plugins on every track.

And if you do there are only two explanations:

1. The track wasn't good enough to begin with (the sound choice was bad, recorded poorly, etc.)
2. You are adding plugins just for the sake of doing it

Professional level mixes are not made by slapping plugins on everything.

This is not to knock on you - but instead to actually give you permission to use your ears instead of your eyes.

Update with weekly series: I don't wanna make this super long - but there was no video this past week, and simply put - some life and a lot of non-music related work had to get done and I simply didn't have enough music specific work that made sense to publish a video.

With all of that said, I think I am going to be trying out a format where instead of "following me every week" like a vlog - it's gonna be more oriented around following each song so that way it's a lot more focused on seeing songs take shape from beginning to end in each video.

The whole point of the series is showing how I am making / releasing 50 songs this year, so it makes sense that each video would follow each song so it doesn't feel as much like a "vlog" (if you have thoughts on this drop them in the comments)

Beyond that - over the past many years I've found that my best work happens in 2-3 week bursts where I get a huge amount done in a few weeks (like 5-8 songs) and then after that I really need a 1-2 week period of letting my brain reset and that's when I get all the promo/video/etc. work done... so it's usually this back and forth balance.

And that realization hit me that trying to force a video EVERY week based on just getting it out is not realistically how I've ever worked... like... ever.

Every creative person has their own ways of working and for me I've found that if I push on music literally every week for a year just to get a video out - that's not gonna be sustainable.

With ALL of that said... I'm not quitting - this is more of a "morphing" and "learning"

I am already WELL ahead of schedule in terms of song output... have 16 songs completely finished already (to be on pace it'd be 11 right now), so for those who are thinking "Oh I told you that you couldn't do it..."

On the one hand... the weekly video was probably biting off more than I could chew IN THE WAY that I initially wanted to do it since it's not how I naturally actually work in real life (which the whole point of the series was being realistic with what I actually do in the first place... so in a way the "real life" way of showing it would be just saying "next week I'm breathing and resetting" and then just not posting a video at all LOL).

However, I'll still absolutely have more than 50 songs done this year. Already working on the next several songs and will have more done soon.

Let me know what you think about each episode following the making of each song instead of a "weekly-follow-me" episode... if I do it that way then I'll have no problem making these happen every week since I can work ahead a bit.

Already looking forward to the next video (this new track is SIIIIICK).
