Symptoms and Screening for Prostate Cancer
Early-stage prostate cancer often shows no symptoms, but when they do appear, they may include difficulty urinating, blood in urine or semen, erectile dysfunction, and pelvic discomfort. Screening methods include the PSA blood test and digital rectal exam (DRE). Elevated PSA levels might indicate cancer but can also result from non-cancerous conditions.

Understanding Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men worldwide, with about 1 in 8 men in the U.S. being diagnosed during their lifetime. The risk of developing prostate cancer increases with age, family history, race (especially in African American men), and genetic factors like BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations.

Early-stage prostate cancer often has no symptoms, making screening crucial. Common tests include the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and the digital rectal exam (DRE). Elevated PSA levels don’t always mean cancer but warrant further investigation, such as MRI, ultrasound, or biopsy.
