Just sent off my next tune!Ā
This one is a doozy and has taken me more attempts than usual to get it out... I think thereās about 7 āfinishedā versions of this song, made over the course of a year, but none of them were fully right. So I just kept trying, learning, and trying again until I finally got a version that I felt said what I actually wanted to say.Ā
The song is called Feels Like Home, and itās a really special one for me. Hopefully it can be for you too.
Sheās coming out next Friday.
See you then!

What's up team, I've got a new tune coming out next week! It's the second track from my new EP, all about different types of love. This one is about finding self love through a rough time, and it's a bit different to my last track. More of a country/folk vibe.
The best way to be updated on its release would be to join my mailing list, which you can find on my website, mattmulholland.com/
Alternatively, you can pre-save it on Spotify with this link here - distrokid.com/hyperfollow/mattmulholland/love-myseā¦
Okay, sweet! See you NEXT WEEK!

Whatās up friends, family, party people, and non-party people! Iāve finally sorted my shit out, and my first studio album is going to be available on the 29th of April!!Ā
Iāll pump out a bunch of pre-save and pre-order links over the next bit, along with some flashy content to get the hype train choo chooing along, so keep an eye out for those.Ā
This is going to be my first ever studio album, itās taken me about five years to finish, and itās really pretty damn personal. Itās a little tricky to describe because the songs cross genres, and the lyrics cover a lot of different vibes and themes, but I feel like that was the only way I could create something thatās properly representative of me, and not just something that I could label easily for marketing purposes.Ā
I was writing a post for my Patreon page today and came up with the comparison between my new album and a movie soundtrack. You know, the songs are often from different artists, can vary heaps in feel and genre, but they still make sense and follow a story. If you know the movie well, each song can bring you back to the scene it was from, and you get to experience it all over again. Sometimes even in a whole new way.
Every good movie needs a montage, so I thought Iād make my own on social media!
Leading up to the release, Iām going to share a bunch of throwback posts of my older content (which it turns out Iāve made a shit load of), and talk a bit about some memories that come up when I watch it.Ā
Maybe watching it will trigger a memory of your own, or maybe Iāll share something you havenāt seen before and youāll be like āwho is this curly haired kid doing weird shit on my newsfeed?ā - Either way, I hope you enjoy! Iām actually super excited to do this, and in my initial scan of my YouTube channel I found stuff that even I had forgotten I made, haha.Ā
WE BEGIN!
Going all the way back to September, 2009ā¦Ā
The Ghostbusters Multitrack.
This wasnāt the first video I uploaded (the first one was me lip syncing shirtless to Chop Suey by System Of A Down. It received two comments telling me to get a haircut and die, so I took it down pretty quickly), but it WAS the first video I uploaded that got some attention. YouTube had only been around for a few years, and the word āviralā was just starting to have a meaning on the streets. Which is where Iām from. The streets. Thatās not true. It got picked up by a few blogs, and TV news channels overseas and I remember being beyond stoked. Really game changing, āThis is it boys, weāre going to AMERICA!ā type stoked.
I had been making videos by myself and with friends from a very young age, but the only people that ever saw them were the people who made it with me, girls I was trying to hit on, and my mum. So this was huge!Ā
I canāt remember numbers specifically, but I think it went from nothing to about 100,000 views in a day. That's a lot of nuts!
These sorts of āmultitrackā videos were still quite the novelty in 2009, and the amount of time and effort it took was just ridiculous. I was running one of the first white macbooks (video was shot on the webcam), and had to use several iMovie āpicture in pictureā plugins to be able to edit it all up. My computer power was so limited that I couldn't watch what I was doing as I went, and just had to really plan it out and hope for the best when exporting it. You can imagine the frustration when you realise you messed something up and have to export it AGAIN (which took about 8 hours or so, haha).Ā
Man, it was a good time. A simpler time. When computers were computers, and you could eat instant noodles for dinner without shame.
I canāt remember why I chose the Ghostbusters theme⦠I mean, obviously itās an absolute banger, and an incredible movie, but I think it may actually have been purely because I had the T-Shirt. That shirt glowed in the dark, by the way. Holy shit it was the best.Ā
Iām sure I wouldāve continued to make videos for no one if it didnāt go viral, but the popularity of this video definitely helped me to take YouTube a bit more seriously.Ā
Still didnāt help me to get a haircut though.Ā
Thanks for reading if youāve made it this far!Ā
SEE YOU NEXT POST!
