Iβm thinking its a rear vs front mech thing.. rds usually have a barrel adjustor and fds dont. They probably just want to save a few a cents on production by doing that

they probably thought that there is already a barrel adjuster on the rear derailleur, they didn't need to put one on the shifter as well?

I'm looking at my cheapo Tourney index shifters, and they're similarly with no barrel adjustment on the rear derailleur unit like your setup. Mine have a little black fake cover in place of a real adjuster as well.
Who cares. Shifts everytime !π

A lot of shimano shifters don't have barrels on the right hand side, probs assuming rear mech will always have one! Where as a barrel on the lever is always useful for setting up front gears
