Published in Neuron, scientists have revealed a groundbreaking discovery surrounding the cause of Alzheimer's disease. The study focuses on microglia and their evil counterpart 'dark microglia' - they hope by understanding this cause of neurodegeneration they may be able to prevent it.

I think one of the worst horrors is to lose the function of your brain. Stuff like alzheimers and dementia scare me way more that any physical problems. I really hope they get this figured out before I forget about it lol. Stopping or mitigating alzheimers is huge and I hope they succeed.

Ever since in high school, I'm afraid of getting this disease in the future. But hopefully in our lifetime there would be an attainable treatment in the future. Just imagine losing yourself while staring blankly at the wall or floor. Probably for years in the late stages.

As someone who is in the middle of attaining a neuroscience degree, I don’t think regular people realize just how fast new discoveries and advancements are happening. It’s really cool

These kinds of discoveries are the exact reason why I donate so much to research

Don't get stressed! Stress is killing your brain... don't worry about it... worrying will just increase that stress making it worse.

I helped care for my grandfather who had Alzheimer's disease for 7 years before he passed. I've seen the effects of it firsthand. It's not pretty. Hearing there's a potential cure on the horizon brings great relief to my soul.

I spent most middle school and all of highschool helping take care of my grandma who had Alzheimer's she ended up passing when I was 19 and in bootcamp. This made me really happy, it might be too late for her but at least now there's hope that no one else will have to go through itā¤

There is nothing more terrifying to me than losing your sense of self. I sincerely hope treatment or even a cure for such a horrible disease is on the horizon.

My memory and cognitive function have significantly declined due to the combined effects of chronic stress and sleep deprivation, exacerbated by my autoimmune and vasculitis conditions. I am currently facing significant challenges in maintaining my professional responsibilities for any employer I work for 😢 I feel I am doomed and lonely in this harsh world. I am offering myself to any lab as an experimental rabbit because that's the only option left for me now

Think the question is though is the immune system responding to a legitimate threat or is it really just being overactive. Because you may see heightened numbers in those cells because they are responding to a legitimate threat.

I really hope this gets solved in my generation. Both of my grandparents on BOTH sides of my parents have Alzheimer's AND dementia. So I'm pretty much guaranteed to get it.

Seems like stress is a trigger for this terrible disease. As someone over age 70 living in the U.S. today I am highly stressed & now I'm considering another country to reduce my exposure. Thanks for this video.

Thats awesome. Alzheimer's scares me almost more than cancer since we have basically zero ways to help someone with it except mental exercises while cancer is getting more and more treatable for every year.
My great grandfather cant even recognize his own son anymore because of dementia
