Detailed Explanation of Each War

1. First Indo-Pak War (1947–1948)

Cause: Pakistan-backed tribal militias invaded the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir after its accession to India.
Course of War: Indian troops airlifted into Kashmir pushed back the invaders. Fighting continued until a UN-mediated ceasefire.

2. Second Indo-Pak War (1965)

Cause: Pakistan’s “Operation Gibraltar” aimed at infiltrating Kashmir to incite insurgency.
Course of War: Heavy fighting in Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Ceasefire declared after 17 days.
Result: Stalemate 🤝 (India had Strategic Advantage

Tashkent Agreement brokered by the Soviet Union.

Both sides agreed to withdraw to pre-war positions.

India gained more territory (1,840 sq km vs Pakistan’s 540 sq km) before the ceasefire.

Cause: Civil war in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). India supported the Mukti Bahini in their independence struggle.
Course of War: Full-scale war began after Pakistan’s pre-emptive airstrikes on India (Operation Chengiz Khan).

Indian forces captured over 90,000 Pakistani soldiers – the largest surrender since WWII.
