I remember in South Africa during Apartheid we got rice from America called Tastic Rice, it is cooked like that, it was expensive , we used to only eat it on Sunday meals, it was like a delicacy. Fast forward to 1998 after freedom , came other African countries with Basmati, Tasmati Rice and my husband who was a Rwandan introduced us to variety of rices including fragrant rice and Chapatis. Till today Iβm grateful for Mandela regime that opened our eyes to other lives we now live.

Mealy bugs love rice which is why rice gets dusted with arsenic. No one wants to open 30 pound bag of rice to find bugs crawling in it. That's why rice should always be rinsed until the water runs clear. Not trying to cook rice in a pesticide.
