Earlier this month, Backroads’ Chief Experience Officer, Avery Hale Smith, joined us on our Vietnam & Cambodia Bike Tour. When reflecting on her experience, Avery said, “Of all the Backroads trips I’ve been lucky enough to take, this one felt the most epic and raw. Traveling from Vietnam to Cambodia was a journey through two vibrant, culturally rich worlds—Vietnam, wild and energetic with incredible food (pork buns at the support stop? It doesn’t get any better!) and Cambodia, calming and spiritual with the kindest people.

The history here is heavy and complex, but the resilience and joy of the Vietnamese and Cambodian people and their willingness to share it with us, combined with the stunning beauty of their countries will stay with me for a long time.

Highlights of this trip for me included a Buddhist water blessing, conquering Hai Van Pass (with fresh coconuts at the top!), riding through ancient temples and Angkor Wat at sunrise and unwinding at The Four Seasons Nam Hai. The impromptu karaoke party and surprise foot massages were an added bonus—our leaders, Jack and Shauna, truly created magic every day.”
