Yeah…no; not ANY 'candy' (keeping to the US term). It can't be glazed (e.g. jellybeans) nor of gelatine (e.g. gummi bears) nor can it be a boiled sweet / 'hard candy' (i.e. sugar heated to 250–266°F (121–130°C); nor chocolate, etc…the list is too long. Porosity is needed on the surface to act as a 'catalyst'…as this is a catalytic reaction. Bisque porcelain–even limestone–could be used in place to the same effect.
