Before the pandemic I would eat a delicious and healthy meal for one dollar everyday (restaurant) and comparing if I lived in other countries, now almost doubled like 1.50. You can live cheaply like myself near a beach with rent at a hundred dollars with three rooms and only half hour to city centre and five minutes to international airport. My English neighbour living on UK benefits and doing visa run for decades.

well said Ben.. Malaysia is not cheap.. to local its normal.. the most important thing is.. a standard of living should be measured by what you can buy with what you actually earned.. not base on the exchange rate of a currency of another country..

I get what you're saying, kinda agree I prefer to hear Malaysia is affordable rather than cheap. Don't know if it will happen in my lifetime, but I don't doubt Malaysia ringgit will one day be expensive π

Big cities can be as cheap or as expensive as you make them. Eat out at fancy hotels every meal and stay in a fancy condo it can be expensive. Eat local, stay at low tier condos you can survive on very little.

4500 RM per month for a single guy no car no mortgage to pay and Careful with his rent. Yes you can live affordably in KL . No luxury but still With some left over money for savings impulsive purchases and entertaiment. But most KLite earn half of Bens income. A single guy on that income in KL . Just normal with no savings. And after rent of about RM 400 for a room in public assisted flat most Malaysian KL single men will only have a out RM 1300 for food transport entertaiment and no savings. Now that quite tough.
