That's awesome! Groove on Fight: Power Instinct 3 has such a unique vibe and great gameplay. It's definitely a classic for fighting game fans!

There is another power instinct game with a similar mechanic where you can grab the referee, who wears the same outfit as the old samurai showdown referee, and use them as a block. It was more of a guard point mechanic cause you could guard cancel with the referee and throw them at the opponent. The throw animation is really similar to that one grandma that could be thrown in one of the newer MK games. First time I saw that grandma get tossed I had a power instinct itch.
Also aside from the ref throw in that game if a player taunted, which is the only way to gain meter aside from taking damage, the other player could challenge the taunt by also taunting initiating a mini game to decide the outcome.

Power Instinct was a very odd but unique fighter, didn't end up playing the game until much later but was exposed to the series thanks to Mugen in the early 2000s.
