I've been guiding mine back down into the soil. My big mama monstera grows so fast!

I recently chopped up my monstera, trimmed the arial roots (I love letting them grow where they like), and tucked them into a vase of water. I wanted a fuller plant and it was getting leggy and weird. The trimmed arial roots quickly grew lots of little roots. They are getting rehomed to soil next week. ❤

I tried this and can confirm that the aerial roots grow to the size of whatever container you give them but don’t seem to suffer if you don’t continually repot them- nor does the plant become unhappy unless all its water sources are depleted.

I guide the aerial roots into the saucer my pot sits in, that way it can soak up all the water that drains from the pot in no time

Ok I totally understand what youre saying and I agree - sounds like a real hassle.
However, I think you may have vastly underestimated how cool a two-headed plant sounds. 😂

My aerial roots just crawl out of the pot off the plant stand and into the dirt. Lol. May need a repot or prop

I don’t think you need to add nutrients/fertilizer all the time. You could end up burning your plant.

Also, don’t break the roots to fit the jar. That is a good way introduce pathogens and more likely to kill off that portion of the aerial root, since the cells have been so disrupted.

I wonder if you can use this method to keep the plants (those that have arial roots) watered when you're away on vacation.

I tried cutting off those roots and rooting them in water and it didn't do anything but become slimy. I will try again leaving it attached to the plant this time. Hope it works.

What if you mist the root now and then instead of putting it in the vase

If the aerial roots grow in the vase of water, after its grown, can u propagate the monstera this way?

Can you trim the arrowroot back if it gets too long and keep it in the same size cup?
