DoA series has both hold back to block and block button. However DoA's block button does not automatically turn the character around. After this short arguments between different systems make more sense to me.

The only traditional fighter I'm good at is DBFZ which is hold back to block and literally every character in the game can teleport behind you. Don't you just...flick the stick in the opposite direction to block that kind of crossup? Or was there something more to Scorpion in Injustice?

that means there's no reason to make the character suddenly come from behind other than look cool, its not because coming from behind is difficult to defend. try tell that to people playing dragonball fighterz, they need to switch defend sides a lot when people come from behind
