Does this plane even make sense today?
Not survivable enough for a peer-to-peer situation, and far more expensive than other options that could do the same thing in low intensity environments. If a plane can drop a small bomb from tens of thousands of feet up and hit with great precision, why is this thing still being maintained?

I'll tell you why, when you hear a call for danger close support, you pray an A 10 is lurking somewhere close. It does 2 things no other plane can do, puts eyes on Hadji upclose and personal delivering life saving munitions on target and, when Hadji hears that Brrrrrrruuupt, he heads for a deep hole that allowed us to regroup without getting stamped. Ask anyone that has needed saving and by and large they will smile and say hog.
