Now this recording mode I never heard about. I remember drilling out a standard VHS cassette to make an SVHS recording on it. Seemed to work fine, but people were telling all kinds of horror stories about it back then, like it would erase itself after a while and stuff like that.

You could had great results usinf high grade tdk tapes with an ET capable deckβ¦. too bad they were on the lasts days of VHS

I suppose you can disable the S-VHS detection switch on the AG-4700 and it will play properly.

Hello, i'm looking for a new VCR that plays VHS-ET ( as well as SVHS ) and also able to play VHS in SΓCAM. I had some issues with JVC so i tend to prefer Panasonic, but i don't know wich models have all these options. If someone has the answer it would be appreciated.

Before SVHS-ET came out, I used to drill holes in standard VHS tapes so I could record SVHS on them. It worked ok with all but the poorest quality tapes. Later I modified my VCR so it just ignored the sensing hole, and I could just switch it between SVHS and VHS using the front panel switch. Also did the same thing to my 3.5β floppy drive so I could format DD disks in HD.
