That whole Unesco World Heritage site was designed and build more or less as one big project. From Amsterdam the Dutch schips sailed the seas. New York was founded by the Dutch, and originaly names New Amsterdam. Other places around the world named by the Dutch: Tasmania, New Zealand, Barents Sea, Cape Horn, Harlem, Brooklyn, Wall street, Staten island and more. This region is called "Noord Holland" or North Holland. Together with South Holland it form the "Holland" many people refer to when they mean "The Netherlands".
